WHITEWATER, WI — Whitewater Unified School District has welcomed Officer Richard Ellis as its new School Resource Officer.
Officer Ellis will begin spending time in district schools on a limited basis before the end of the calendar year and will fully transition into the role following winter break.
“We are excited to welcome Officer Ellis to our district and our school community,” said Superintendent Samuel Karns. “His experience, background, and commitment to service will be a tremendous asset as we continue to prioritize safe, supportive learning environments for all students.”
Officer Ellis brings a broad range of law enforcement experience to the position. He has served as a sworn officer with the Whitewater Police Department since January 2022, after previously working as a dispatcher for the department beginning in October 2020. In recognition of his contributions and dedication to the department, Officer Ellis was named Officer of the Year in 2024.
Prior to joining the Whitewater Police Department, Officer Ellis worked as a sworn officer for a federal law enforcement agency from 2016 to 2018. He also completed internships with the Milwaukee Police Department in 2013 and 2014.
Officer Ellis holds a Bachelor of Science degree in justice and public policy from Concordia University.
